TidalHealth to close rural Primary Care Center in Federalsburg
(FEDERALSBURG, Md) – Tidalhealth has announced that they are closing their primary care clinic in Federalsburg, closing later in November, and we’re talking with people in Caroline and North Dorchester counties about the impact that closure is going to have.
On Sunday, November 15th, the clinic will shut their doors in Federalsburg for good.
The announcement of the closing caught people we spoke to on and off-camera by surprise.
“Oh, no, that’s pretty awful. People here have a lot of health problems and stuff, and the closest thing we can get to is like a dentist office. And if that goes down, we really don’t have much. We have to go out of town,” says Joseph Crouch of Federalsburg.
WMDT reached out to TidalHealth for comment on the closing of the Federalsburg center.
As well as what the health system plans to do for Federalsburg patients.
In an official statement, TidalHealth says, “As part of this transition, patients are being connected with TidalHealth Primary Care offices in Bridgeville, Seaford, Delmar and Georgetown, where they can continue receiving care through TidalHealth’s network of primary care practitioners.”
Leaving some wondering how they’re going to make a trip that’s at least a dozen miles away from town.
Joseph tells WMDT, “I’d say it’s a real tragedy for people that have medical problems but don’t have a lot of ways to get around that. I can relate to that. I don’t really have much of a car. I just walk everywhere in town that I could not imagine not having primary care in town. You have to drive, when you don’t have it…”
In the meantime, Tidalhealth says they’re working to make sure transitions are as seamless as possible for Caroline County residents.
