Two Tased & Arrested After Altercation at Dewey Beach Restaurant
DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Dewey Beach Police tased and arrested two men following an altercation that broke out at a local restaurant.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 13, officers in the 2000 block of Coastal Highway encountered an intoxicated and disorderly man who had reportedly become hostile inside the Starboard restaurant and was removed by security staff. Police say the man, identified as 24-year-old Ezra Pendleton from Lincoln, continued to act disorderly outside the establishment, yelling profanities and causing nearby patrons to move away.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, and a second man, identified as 22-year-old Oliver Barnes from Milford, attempted to intervene and calm down Pendleton. However, a physical altercation then broke out between the two men. Pendleton reportedly refused officers commands to comply, prompting an officer to deploy a department-issued Taser. He was subsequently taken into custody.
During Pendleton’s arrest, police say Barnes interfered with the officers and made physical contact with one of them while refusing to follow repeated commands to step back. A Taser was deployed on Barnes as well, and he was also taken into custody.
During an ensuing investigation, officers learned that before being removed from the establishment, Pendleton allegedly made threatening statements toward a member of the security staff, including references to having previously shot someone and threatening to do so again. No serious injuries were reported.
Both individuals were transported to the Dewey Beach Police Department for processing. Barnes was issued criminal summonses for offensive touching and disorderly conduct, and was released on his own recognizance.
Pendleton was charged with criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening, and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned and released on a $2,200 unsecured bond.
