Six Displaced After Shed Fire Spreads to Hurlock Home

HURLOCK, Md. – A family of six was displaced after a shed fire spread to their home on Saturday afternoon.

Around 3:20 p.m. on Sept. 19, crews with the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department and other local companies responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of Commerce Street after a passerby reported it. Crews arrived to find a shed fire with extension into the main residence.

A total of 40 firefighters battled the blaze for half an hour before successfully extinguishing it. The total damage to the buildings and their contents is estimated to be valued at $75,000.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal continues to investigate the cause of the fire, but investigators say they do not suspect foul play.

The displaced family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
