Caroline Co. FFA Student Shares Bittersweet Goodbye with Pig

(DENTON, Md) – Throughout the year, WMDT have followed Gabrielle Rowe and her prize winning horse, Darla, from when Gabi received Darla back in March as a piglet to now auctioning her off at the Caroline Dorchester County Fair.

WMDT met Gabrielle in March when she received Darla through the Caroline Career and Technology Center. Her first time raising a pig.

We caught up with Gabi again at the Talbot County Fair in July, seeing Darla fully grown. And coming to the end of the road for the pair, as Darla, a market hog is set to be auctioned off at the fair in Denton.

Gabi tells us, “Last night after my show, I actually cried because it was just it’s really hard to think that this is it. Tomorrow night, as the auction site will be selling her.”

Throughout this journey, Gabrielle has had plenty of support from her family.

Her mother, Laura shared this video with us, as well as Gabrielle’s commitment to raising Darla.

“I have watched her every single day without fail, going out to take care of Darla, to clean her pen, to play with her, to train her and our other daughters have learned and watched from Gabby, and she’s set an amazing example for them as well,” says Laura.

We even gave Gabrielle a chance to share her feelings with Darla one last time.

“I love her very much and I’ll be really sad to see her go. But I’m really proud of her,” says Gabi to Darla.
