Young Farmers Prepare for Kickoff of Talbot Co. State Fair
(TALBOT CO. Md) – Fair season is starting across the Eastern Shore, and Talbot County is the place to be this weekend.
Farmers and their livestock from across the mid shore are excited for this weekend as the Talbot County Fair kicks off Thursday night, including Paris, a Scottish highland cow from just up the road in Chestertown.
Just ask Paris’ farmer Casey Turner whose been showing off cattle for the last few years, now getting to take part in organizing the Talbot County fair’s livestock shows.
“Oh, I’m having a great time with them. I love seeing all the smiling faces with the kids and they are like live in the luxurious. It’s life in the show ring with a bunch of fans on them right now,” says Casey.
While 12 year old, Heidi Hutchinson is showing her brand new three month old calf named Daisy for the first time.
She tells WMDT, “It’s very fun because you get to just show them off and you get a walk and learn their personalities as you go. I’m very excited because it took a lot of time and I had a walker and it only took about three weeks and then she got really used to me.”
We also caught up with Gabrielle Roe, a Caroline County FFA student WMDT interviewed in early 2026, with her piglet, Darla, now fully grown…
She’s anxious to show off her pig after raising him in the months since.
Gabrielle says, “I really enjoy putting the time into the Hogs. A couple of years ago, if you told me I was showing a hog, I told you, you’re lying. I was not a pig person at first, and now they’re my everything. I love them. This year has been a really good experience for me.”
