UPDATE: State of Emergency Lifted for Dover Following Tornado
UPDATE: The state of emergency has been lifted for the City of Dover, as of 6:10 a.m. on Friday.
The state of emergency was implemented following significant damage caused by a tornado, as confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS). NWS will be surveying the damage today to confirm the tornado’s intensity and path.
Businesses and individuals are able to resume their normal activities at this time, but are asked to avoid areas where debris remains present. City staff and emergency personnel are working to safely clear affected areas. Additionally, the yard waste limit is being lifted over the next two weeks to aid in getting everything cleaned up. Residents should look for update’s on the City’s website regarding debris pickup and other recovery efforts.
Several city facilities are currently without email and internet services, along with phone service through Verizon. Residents facing emergencies should call 911, and non-emergencies can be reported to 736-7111. Emails can be sent to Rebecca.mcnamara@cj.state.de.us
DOVER, Del. – A state of emergency has been declared for the city of Dover following severe storms that rolled through the region Thursday night.
The state of emergency went into effect at 6:20 p.m. August, 20.
According to the Dover Police Department, the city likely experienced a tornado, as significant damage has been reported throughout parts of the city.
First responders have observed power outages, downed trees, flooding, and other storm-related damage.
The hardest-hit area appears to be the Division Street/Loockerman Street corridor, as well as parts of North Dupont Highway, according to police.
The Dover Police Department is urging people to stay off the roads and stay home.
