STEVENSVILLE, Md. – Queen Anne’s County deputies arrested a woman for driving under the influence (DUI) after they say she led them on a high speed chase that ended with a crash at the base of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Deputies arrested 27-year-old Carolyn Miller of Centreville on a litany of traffic charges, including reckless and negligent driving and violating a license restriction. Miller was asked to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which she refused. She later submitted to a BAC test with a result of .22, almost three times the legal limit.

Just before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jun. 28, a Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s deputy was enroute to a call for when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed crossed the center line into the opposite
lane of travel, nearly striking him head-on. The deputy reportedly performed an emergency evasive maneuver to avoid being struck before making a U-turn to follow the vehicle.

While attempting to catch up to the vehicle, the deputy observed it crash into a culvert ditch and planted field. He activated his emergency lights and siren to respond, but while doing so, the vehicle re-entered the roadway facing the wrong direction before continuing onto Castle Marina Road, then onto westbound Route 50.

The vehicle continued operating in an erratic manner, striking the concreate barrier separating the entrance to Shopping Center Road without stopping, and traveling between multiple lanes
of traffic at approximately 100 miles per hour. A pursuit was authorized and ended at the base of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge after the vehicle struck multiple traffic cones and two guardrails before
being spun around, leaving the vehicle inoperable. Deputies conducted a high-risk vehicle stop and the driver, identified as Miller, was placed under arrest.

During a search of the vehicle multiple alcoholic beverages were located. While speaking with Miller, deputies observed several indicators of impairment and detected an alcoholic odor on her breath.
