Ocean City Air Dot Show Takes Flight As America Approaches 250th Birthday

OCEAN CITY, Md. — The Air Dot Show is returning to Ocean City for its 19th consecutive year, bringing high-flying entertainment as the nation begins celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

Spectators can catch the show from the Ocean City Boardwalk and beach. Event organizers say they’re closely monitoring the weather to ensure everything goes as planned.

Officials are also reminding visitors to prepare for heavy traffic and limited parking throughout the weekend.

“Traffic will be a bear probably getting in and out of the city, so you want to allow yourself ample time to get parked and get a good spot on the beach,” said Chris Dirato, senior vice president of the Bitner Group. “Come out and enjoy what really is a terrific, family-friendly event.”

This year’s lineup includes performances by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point’s Parachute Team will also deliver the American flag during the opening ceremony.

A special international guest will help kick off the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.

“We’ll have the Patrouille de France, the French Air and Space Force demonstration team, performing, and they’re really something to see,” Dirato said. “They don’t come to the United States very often. They’ll be kicking off their month-long U.S. tour in Ocean City, so we feel very honored that they’re going to be here.”

Dirato said the event’s patriotic atmosphere is one of its biggest draws.

“Everybody likes to come out and wave the red, white and blue at air shows and watch the military men and women who protect our freedom every day,” he said.

He added that the event could also inspire the next generation of aviators and service members.

“It might be an educational moment where your child is inspired to pursue a career in aviation or even in the military,” Dirato said. “So it’s a great opportunity.”
