Fourth of July: Most Dangerous Week on the Road?

MARYLAND – For many Marylanders, the 4th of July holiday means long drives, but one organization is offering advice to ease driver’s worries during this busy time for roads.

This holiday weekend, AAA is expecting a massive push of drivers causing elevated traffic all over the state.

“We are projecting here in Maryland that, more than 1.5 million Marylanders will be traveling over this busy, Independence Day Holiday,” said Ragina Ali, Manager of Public & Government Affairs for AAA. “[Last year], AAA came to the rescue of more than 687,000 members across the country.”

However, representatives with the company have given out some pointers to make holiday travels a little smoother and a lot safer:

  • Make sure your car is road-ready before leaving
  • Pre-check for flat tires and dead batteries — a major cause of increasing traffic congestion
  • Leave during the week, as most drivers make the trip on the day of the holiday or at the start of the weekend
  • Don’t be afraid to take advantage of public transportation to save on gas!
