DelDOT Launches Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Study in Lewes
LEWES, Del. — The Delaware Department of Transportation is exploring ways to improve roadway safety in Lewes.
On June 18, the department launched a study focusing on the busy intersection of Savannah Road and American Legion Road in Lewes — which sees a large number of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Officials are looking at ways to improve pedestrian safety in the area and evaluating the need for a sidewalk and other potential improvements.
Planning Supervisor of Active Transportation and Community Connections at DelDOT Kelly Valencik says the intersection sees an increase in traffic this time of year because of its proximity to local attractions and trails. “What they [The City of Lewes] wanted to investigate came out of a bicycle plan that they had already done.”
