Non-profit announces Harriet Tubman Inaugural Summit
Cambridge, Md. – A local non-profit announces a summit to educate and celebrate the accomplishments of Maryland-born abolitionist, Harriet Tubman.
In honor of the nation’s 250 anniversary, The Alpha Genesis Community Development Corporation (AGCDC) is hosting a month-long series of events, all dedicated to the influence of Harriet Tubman, featuring guest speakers, from historians to community leaders. Throughout September, attendees can participate in community service efforts along with interactive exhibits and displays. To recognize Tubman’s posthumous appointment to Brigadier General of the Maryland National Guard, 250 women veterans are attending to stand in her honor.
Event organizers selected Dorchester County because Tubman was born in the area in 1822, with many nearby locations noted for their historical significance to the Underground Railroad and the history of slavery in America.
The AGCDC hopes this serves as not just a gathering, but a call to rise above challenges and serve one’s community. Adrian Holmes, President, Founder, and CEO of the non-profit, says “It’s not just honoring the past but looking forward and being inspired as a community to, you know, to take history in our own hands and be a part of change.”
