City of Salisbury Cancels 2026 MD Folk Fest

SALISBURY, Md. – The City of Salisbury has announced that they will not be hosting the Maryland Folk Festival this year due to funding challenges.

The City says that after careful evaluation, they have determined that it is unable to produce the Festival at the level of quality that attendees have come to expect.

“This was not an easy decision,” said Caroline O’Hare, Events & Culture Manager for the City of Salisbury, in a release. “The folk festival has become a meaningful tradition for our community—bringing people together through music, dance, food, and shared experiences. We are incredibly proud of what has been built over the years.”

In a statement to WMDT, O’Hare shared that the City is unable to host the festival due to fewer grants and sponsorship commitments, saying in part, “This year has been tough across the board. We know budgets are tighter, priorities are shifting, and many organizations are navigating difficult decisions of their own.”

While the Festival will not take place this year, the City of Salisbury’s Arts, Business, and Culture Department (ABCD) says they remain committed to creating opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the arts.

“We’re already beginning conversations and brewing ideas for Fall 2027, something fresh, community-driven, and full of the same spirit of joy, discovery, and connection that people loved about the festival,” O’Hare said in her statement to WMDT. “We’re not entirely sure what that looks like yet, but we’re excited to start imagining what comes next…”

Since its transition from the National Folk Festival in 2022, the Maryland Folk Festival has welcomed tens of thousands of attendees to Downtown Salisbury each year, featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists alongside regional performers and cultural traditions.

Additional updates from the City of Salisbury ABCD will be shared as future programming takes shape.
