Lower Shore Workforce Alliance Hosts Summer Kickoff Career Fair
SALISBURY, Md. — The Lower Shore Workforce Alliance hosted their Summer Kickoff Career Fair in collaboration with TidalHealth on Wednesday, where students looked for summer jobs and explored different career pathways.
“We have a variety of industries here, from Tidalhealth, healthcare, to Maryland Labor, to government, to military, police, plumbing, skill trades… We’re really excited,” Director of the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance Leslie Porter-Cabell said.
The fair brought tons to look at for students interested in careers in healthcare. “Healthcare careers on the Eastern Shore are so diverse now. We have everything from traditional physician and nursing — we have occupations like lab science, respiratory therapy, physical medicine,” TidalHealth Director of Workforce Development Rachel Bomar said.
Students explored service options as well– such as the Maryland Corps Service Year Option, made possible by the Department of Service and Civic Innovation. “We offer nine months of a paid program for 18–24-year-olds who are looking to launch their careers. It’s really for folks who may not be sure about their next steps but are really committed to their community,” said Daniel Bicknell, Director of Partnerships at the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation.
Students got a closer look at what these careers entail with the help of virtual reality. “It’s kind of a win-win, where they can actually do some exploration, and they also get to talk to industry employers that they would not have access to for a recruitment opportunity,” Porter-Cabell said.
