Inmate found dead in cell bunk at Eastern Correctional Institution, investigation underway

WESTOVER, Md. – A death investigation is underway at Eastern Correctional Institution.

On August 31st, around 5:40 p.m., 24-year-old Donyell Cornell Morris was found dead in his bunk. Investigators say Morris was in the cell with another inmate before being found deceased. Another inmate has been identified as a suspect, but has not been charged.

Maryland State Police and crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division responded to the scene. The Somerset County State’s Attorney’s office will handle the investigation once evidence collection is complete.
