Salisbury man sentenced in 2022 shooting that injured Felton mother of three

FELTON, Del. – A Salisbury man has been sentenced for his role in a 2022 shooting in Felton.

28-year-old Jared Hopkins was sentenced to 55 years in prison with all but 14 years suspended. Hopkins pleaded guilty in April to first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

On October 1st, 2022, Hopkins fired two shots at an occupied home in Felton. A 34-year-old mother of three was inside at the time with her husband and children, and was struck by a bullet. She was seriously injured, but later recovered.

Delaware State Police said Hopkins mistakenly shot the home because he believed it was occupied by someone who had robbed him.

“This was senseless, reckless, and needless … The defendant’s disregard for the safety of others could have easily turned fatal—as it stands this family is already traumatized,” stated Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings.
