EASTON, Md. – The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion that took place at the Days Inn Hotel on Ocean Gateway earlier this week.

On August 12th, around 1:39 p.m., Easton Police responded to the hotel for a report of a man with a gun. Officers quickly arrested a suspect, who was identified as 40-year-old Earnest Young Jr. of Federalsburg.

Investigators accuse Young Jr. of entering a hotel room and confronting a male and female who were inside. During that confrontation, police say Young Jr. brandished a handgun at the male victim. Police say both victims were able to escape the hotel room unhurt and contact police. Officers would later find a loaded handgun near the scene.

Young Jr. is now facing several charges, including home invasion, first-degree assault, and other crimes. Investigators believe that a woman identified as 29-year-old Katherine Adkins of Easton aided Young Jr. after the crime took place. Adkins denied that a weapon was involved in the incident and stated that Young Jr. never had a weapon or entered the room. However, witnesses told police that Adkins had hidden the weapon in another hotel room.

On August 13th, Adkins was charged with accessory after the fact, handgun on person, loaded handgun on person, altering physical evidence, and false statement to an officer. She was later released to the custody of the Talbot County Detention Center.
