Suspicious device triggers bomb squad response in downtown Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – Bomb technicians were seen in downtown Salisbury after a suspicious device was reported on the 200 block of East Market Street.
The Salisbury Fire Department and the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal responded around noon Monday. They say they found an item resembling a PVC pipe bomb while answering a brush fire call. Bomb technicians inspected the item and concluded it was non-hazardous and did not present any danger to the public.
However, as a precaution, explosive and accelerant detection K9 units were brought in to search the area. Investigators say nothing suspicious was found, and the scene was cleared by about 2:40 p.m. No injuries were reported.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is reminding the public to practice the three R’s when a suspicious device is located: Recognize that any suspicious object should not be touched, ever. Retreat or carefully leave the area. Report the item immediately.
