Suspect sought in Bethany Beach after fireworks shot at innocent bystanders

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Bethany Beach Police are searching for a man they say shot fireworks at innocent bystanders.

Over the last few nights, police say the individual aimed numerous fireworks at others in the area of the 100 block of Garfield Parkway. When officers arrived on scene, their body cameras captured footage of a possible suspect. Police say the individual approached a large group along the beach and aimed a mortar-style firework at them. Several people were struck, police say.

Bethany Beach Police were in the immediate area, and attempted to chase the suspect, but say he got away. The suspect is described as an 18- to 20-year-old Black male, approximately 6’00” tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with short dreadlock-style hair, and a scar or scratch under his right eye.
