Ocean City Police dispel rumors of shooting amid fireworks arrest
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Police are working to clear up rumors about a chaotic scene on the boardwalk Friday night. Videos shared on social media appeared to show crowds of people running on the boardwalk as fireworks exploded in the darkened sky behind them.
Police say an arrest was made downtown after a group of individuals discharged fireworks into a crowd on the boardwalk. However, while some witnesses had reported shots fired, police have confirmed no firearm-related injuries were involved in the incident. Police say it was fireworks, not gunshots, that caused the loud noises, and added there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Ocean City Police stated it was thankful for the community’s vigilance and quick reporting. The agency asks the public to report any suspicious or illegal activity.
