July 4th Fireworks and carnival in Chincoteague: What to know

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce is welcoming the community to a 4th of July fireworks celebration.

Before the fireworks lift off, the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company Carnival will begin at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks will be set off across from the carnival grounds on Main Street at 9:00 p.m.

Parking will be limited, as the lot across from the carnival will be closed. Parking will also not be permitted on Jester, Penison, and Willow Streets. Willow Street will be closed from Jester Street to Bunting Road and Davis Street starting at 6:00 p.m. Main Street from Jester Street to Bunting Road will be closed starting at 8:00 p.m.

Because of the limited parking opportunities and road closures, attendees are encouraged to ride the trolley or bus to the celebration.

Rides on Pony Express Trolleys are available for free between 5:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. Trolley service will run a modified route with no service on Main Street from Church Street to Bunting Road. The modified schedule will include Willow Street, with pick up and drop off locations on the back side of the carnival grounds.

Free shuttle service will run from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Chincoteague High School. Attendees who ride the bus will be dropped off at the back side of the carnival grounds. Visitors and locals are encouraged to park at the high school and ride the shuttle.

Officials ask that visitors remain clear of fire and rescue vehicles, which will be on site as a precaution.
