UPDATE: Wellington Beach cleared after bacteria advisory put in place

UPDATE: Wellington Beach was retested on Monday, July 17th. The advisory was lifted as test results have come back normal. For questions, call the Somerset County Health Department at 443-523-1700.

CRISFIELD, Md. – Wellington Beach is under an advisory due to elevated bacteria levels.

The beach will be retested on July 21st, with results expected to come back by July 23rd. Children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems should avoid swimming at Wellington Bach in the interim. According to the Somerset County Health Department, those groups are most likely to become seriously ill if exposed to waterborne illnesses.

Symptoms and associated risks of waterborne illnesses include ear, nose, and eye infections, diarrhea, vomiting, hepatitis, encephalitis, skin rashes, and respiratory diseases. Health officials are asking the public to avoid swimming at beaches after heavy rainfall and to stay out of murky or foul-smelling water. Anyone with an open wound or infection should also avoid the beach.
