DELAWARE – The body of the driver of a truck that plunged into the Delaware River Friday has been recovered, according to the Delaware River and Bay Authority.

Early Friday morning, a bobtail tractor crossed three lanes of traffic on the Delaware Memorial Bridge, struck a concrete barrier, and hurtled into the river. The cab was located in about 20 feet of water hours later.

The driver’s body and the cab were pulled from the river at 11:10 a.m. Saturday. Emergency personnel had to cut into the cab to recover the remains, which have been handed over to the Delaware Medical Examiner.

Authorities say the investigation continues. The victim has not yet been identified, nor has the cause of the accident. Officials are also still working to identify the owner of the cab, and work out other details.
