SALISBURY, Md. – Squirrels are to blame for a house fire in Salisbury on Thursday, say investigators.

At 1:07 p.m. on April 24, fire crews responded to 28101 Cross Creek Drive, finding a home with its roof on fire.

Investigators say squirrels had chewed the wiring of a solar panel system on the roof, sparking the blaze. The fire caused $5,000 in damage. No one was hurt.

The City of Salisbury Fire Marshal is reminding solar panel system owners to regularly check for rodent activity.
