First grader brings unloaded handgun to Beaver Run Elementary School

SALISBURY, Md. – A 7-year-old student at Beaver Run Elementary School brought an unloaded handgun to school Tuesday morning, according to police.

Before dismissal for the day, police say a teacher noticed what appeared to be a handgun in the first grader’s possession. The teacher and a school administrator followed safety procedures, including notifying the appropriate school personnel, law enforcement, and parents. All students and staff were dismissed without further incident.

Police say Beaver Run Elementary School and Wicomico County Public Schools are cooperating fully with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation, police say.

WMDT has reached out to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and Wicomico County Public Schools for further comment.
