Annual repaving project returns to Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Drivers can expect detours and possible delays in Cambridge starting in mid-April. Sidewalk crossing improvements are first in order. Paving will run through this fall. This year, the city will resurface about 11,750 linear feet, or 2.2 miles, of street.
The city’s Engineering Department has identified a list of streets in need of resurfacing, with the worst streets receiving the highest priority. A “Pavement Condition Study” was conducted in 2018 by the consulting firm IMS, a company specializing in roadway pavement assessments.
The David A. Bramble Company will undertake the annual paving project. The bid was awarded last September after the company successfully repaved Pine Street from High Street to Cedar Street in the city’s Fiscal Year 2023/2024 paving project.
Mayor Lajan Cephas and the Cambridge Commissioners budgeted $600,000 for road resurfacing for the current fiscal year. The city determined that sidewalk crossings on the priority streets would need improvements to meet the most current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
In total, 34 crosswalks have been identified at paving locations and will be upgraded. The upgrades must be completed prior to resurfacing and are expected to take about two weeks to complete. David A. Bramble Company will make the improvements without exceeding the total funding allocated by the Commissioners for the project.
The schedule for paving is tentative and is subject to change due to weather conditions or unexpected subbase road problems.
