Worcester Co. Public Schools begins search for new superintendent

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester County Public Schools has begun its search for the next superintendent.

Search for Superintendent

After 41 years of service to the district, Louis Taylor is preparing for retirement. Board of Education President Todd Ferrante said school leaders want the whole community to be involved in the search for his replacement.

“Worcester County has always included the public as far as our process goes in selecting a superintendent … We have various business and community leaders, we have parent groups, and we also have students who would like to participate in the process. It’s a very inclusive process because we want the community to assist us in helping pick the next superintendent of schools,” Ferrante said.

Finding the Right Fit

Ferrante said the district and Board are working in tandem with the Maryland Association of Boards of Education to identify candidates. Once the pool of applicants is narrowed down, Ferrante added each one would be extensively interviewed.

Taylor served nine years as superintendent and will retire in June. His predecessor, Dr. Jon Andes held the position for 16 years. Ferrante said the district is searching for someone with that same dedication.

“We’re one of the top school systems in the state. So, we want to make sure that whoever our next superintendent is, they align with our values—not only with the Board of Education’s values but with community values,” Ferrante said.

Looking Ahead

Applications for the job will be available online. They may be submitted via the Internet, or in person at the Board’s central office. Ferrante said the next superintendent will be named in about three to four months.
