Investigators hope increased reward will spur answers in homcide of 10-year-old Salisbury boy

SALISBURY, Md. – It’s been nearly five months since ten-year-old Tyron Colbert Jr. of Salisbury was killed by gunfire inside his home. Investigators have increased the cash reward for information leading to the conviction and arrest of whoever may have been behind the trigger.

Where the Investigation Began

On Aug. 5, 2024, around 10:30 p.m., the Salisbury Police Department responded to the 200 block of Clay Street for shots fired.

Tyron, an East Salisbury Elementary student, was found dead inside the home as a result of being struck by gunfire. Police say the boy’s mother and two siblings were also on the scene at the time of the shooting, but no other injuries were reported.

Thus far, no arrests have been made.

Investigators Increase Reward

Now, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Maryalnd State Police (MSP), Salisbury Police, and Crime Solvers are offering $25,000 for information that could solve this case.

“Sometimes people are scared and this may put them over the edge to come forward. They’re scared to be out in public, they’re scared to talk to the police, and sometimes a cash reward will go some way with that. That’s what we have seen,” said MSP Salisbury Barrack Homicide Unit commander, Lieutenant Kyle Clark.

Since Tyron’s homicide first rocked the community in August, Lt. Clark says investigators have dived into every lead possible. Currently, he said, detectives are combing through video surveillance and phone records, among other potential evidence.

“Keep your eyes and ears open,”

Each tip is treated seriously, said Lt. Clark, who added that each one is vetted by investigators.

“Nothing is too small. There is always something, whether it’s a vehicle or somebody who doesn’t look right in an area. Something that small may be able to give us something else that happens in the case… We want [the community] to keep your eyes and ears open. Please come forward with information,” Lt. Clark said.

Tips may be shared anonymously with any of the agencies involved, as well as Crime Solvers, which can be reached at 410-548-1776.

“We definitely want to get justice for Tyron Colbert’s family,” Lt. Clark said.
