Foodie Friday: Nori Sushi
OCEAN CITY, Md. – For this edition of Foodie Friday, we’re visiting Nori Sushi in Ocean City. This eatery has been named by residents the best sushi in town multiple times over, and there’s good reason for that.
Executive Chef Yanni Lambrinos has a true passion for all things flavorful. The talented young chef has created a whole slate of OMG-worthy offerings, including a wide variety of sushi rolls.
Let the Tsunami Sweep You Away
The Tsunami Roll contains tuna and spicy mayo and is topped with crab meat, siracha, jalapeno, and Nori sauce.
“After tasting [this], I have definitely been converted into a ‘let’s fry all the sushi’ believer,” said Foodie Friday Host Hannah Cechini.
“The tempura is a fantastic texture… The sweet, the savory, and the crunchy and the little jalapeno hat is giving me that nice little pop of heat,” Foodie Photog Mike said of the Tsunami Roll.
What Happens in the Deep Fryer…
The Vegas Roll is also flash-fried and comes complete with crab and cream cheese on the inside, and topped with more crab and eel sauce.
Thankfully, what happens in the deep fryer does not stay in the deep fryer—instead, it transforms the Vegas Roll into melty morsels.
“Putting this roll in the deep fryer has really allowed the cream cheese on the inside to melt and get all happy with everything else in there,” Hannah said.
No Need for Beach Patrol With This Roll
Chef Yanni pairs them with the Riptide Roll, which includes tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, jalapeno, and tempura crispies. The dish finishes off with jumbo lump blue crab meat and Old Bay. There’s no need to call Beach Patrol over this roll. Well, maybe unless you’re in shock over its savory goodness.
“This is Maryland in a sushi roll… The tuna and the avocado on the inside of the roll are so fresh. Great texture and great flavor,” Hannah said.
Yanni’s Yakitori
Despite those rolls claiming the title of fan favorites, Chef Yanni’s Yakitori grilled octopus is a must-try. Yakitori is a traditional Japanese style of grilling, that typically involves skewered meats roasting over hot charcoals.
“This is very tender. It’s beautifully smoky from the Yakitori,” Hannah said.
This Yakitori octopus comes with The Lambrinos family’s Greek flair. The octopus is dressed up with red onions, jalapenos, Greek extra virgin olive oil, lemon, and scallions.
“Beautiful bright note because of the lemon on this octopus. And, as soon as I get past that, the chew is perfect,” said Foodie Photog Mike.
Novel Nigiri
Chef Yanni wouldn’t let the Foodie team leave without trying his specialty nigiri: tuna and foie gras for Hannah, and eel with soy sauce simple syrup for Mike.
“The tuna is super fresh, but that foie gras is really interesting. It’s very fatty and kind of melts in your mouth as soon as you start chewing it. It just brings a wonderful extra layer of flavor and texture,” Hannah said.
“The eel is an interesting combination of a little bit fatty, a little bit salty,” Mike added.
