Forum on Wicomico County Executive referendum kicks off Wednesday at Salisbury University

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County is facing a big question this fall. Voters will choose whether or not to keep the County Executive position in place, in a November referendum.

Local organizations are trying to help undecided voters stay informed. Wednesday, the Greater Salisbury Committee, PACE at Salisbury University, and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce are holding an informational forum on the referendum.

“Any time you’re considering a change in the form of government, that’s a big deal,” said President and CEO of the Greater Salisbury Committee, Mike Dunn. “I think a lot of people in our community have only known a County Executive form of government.”

Panelists at the forum will include a current County Executive and County Administrator, as well as a former County Council member—all of which have served outside of Wicomico County.

“Our goal is to neither defend nor criticize either form of government; our goal is to inform and educate so that people think they have a little bit better understanding before they go vote this November,” Dunn said. “All of the panelists, I think, are well-positioned to talk about the pros and cons of each form of government.”

The forum starts at 6 p.m. on October 9th, and is expected to run to about 7:30 p.m. The event is being held at Salisbury University’s Guerrieri Academic Commons. Organizers ask attendees to arrive early as parking can become limited. The forum will be broadcast on PAC 14. WMDT’s Hannah Cechini will be moderating.
