Public input requested on Cove Road Beach improvements at upcoming meeting
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Attention all Cove Road Beach lovers: Wicomico County officials want your input on coming park improvements.
County officials plan to hold a public meeting next week to collect initial ideas from the public. Steve Miller, Director of Recreation, Parks and Tourism for Wicomico County is hoping for a good turnout.
“It’s already a good asset, but this acquisition is going to more than double the size of the beach,” Miller said. “It will give people a chance to spread out, and really enjoy that park even more than they do.”
The acquisition in question was completed so that the county could make those improvements.
“Two years ago we acquired property adjacent to the beach and since that time there were old homes on the property that had to be demolished,” Miller said. “All of that happened this summer. While that’s happening, we’ve been working on an initial plan to connect the existing beach property with the new one.”
Miller says plans could include creating additional parking, an ADA-accessible fishing pier and lookout areas, and basic walking trails.
“It wouldn’t be heavily developed, as far as putting in big structures or anything like that,” Miller said. “Primarily, it’s places to enjoy the beach and maybe a place to sit in the shade.”
The public meeting will take place at the Westside Community Center on September 30th at 6 p.m.
