Foodie Friday: Oaked 110
SNOW HILL, Md. – Foodie Friday is all about good eats and feeling the love. That’s the vibe at Oaked 110 in Snow Hill, which we’re checking out this week.
Classic Cuisine with a Twist
The team at this eatery doesn’t hold back on creativity or flavor and will treat you like one of your own.
“We like to put an emphasis on comfort food, with a little bit of a Southern blend,” said Corporate Executive Chef Thomas Raymond. “It’s just a mish-mash of different favorites—classic cuisine, with a twist.”
One Bite Bliss
We’re going to start out journey into the joy of eating with their signature one bites: grilled scallop and tenderloin.
Both bites are buttoned up with a beautiful bourbon tomato jam.
“We take grape tomatoes, we roast them in the oven with garlic, shallots, a little bit of salt and pepper, olive oil, until they just start to caramelize,” said Chef Raymond. “Add a little bit of bourbon, reduce it down, brown sugar, then add a little basil at the end just to kind of freshen up the flavor a little bit.”
The steak gets a dousing of chimichurri, and each bite gets a microgreen hat.
“The scallop was nice and silky on the inside, but at the same time, it has that nice browning on the outside of it,” said Foodie Friday host Hannah Cechini.
The steak was perfectly tender, and that tomato jam is something special. Combine it with the chimichurri and you’ve got a real treat.
“I think tomato jam has just eclipsed ketchup in my life as the condiment of choice. There’s just so much character to it,” said Foodie Photog Mike. “I am quickly becoming a fan of chimichurri with steak because the herbaceous-ness and cooling is a great counterpoint.”
Succulent Ceviche
If that isn’t enough to wake up your pallet, try Chef Raymond’s ceviche.
“So, our ceviche is marinated in-house overnight for 24 hours,” Chef Raymond explained. “Then, we add our pico de gallo and corn relish.”
The marination works magic on the shrimp, scallop, and crab.
“When you put things like shrimp and crab into a ceviche, I think they just—if anything, they just become more tender,” said Mike.
“I love the brightness from the lemon and the lime juice,” Hannah added.
Hefty Handheld
But it’s not just about the light bites.
If you’re looking for a hefty handheld, and have found yourself in the Oaked 110 dining room, you’re in the right spot. All of their burgers are of the smashed variety, and come with tempting toppings.
The Oaked 110 burger is dressed up with a signature blend of Boursin and blue cheese. It’s perched on a brioche bun, along with more of that delicious tomato bourbon jam and an onion ring that demands ovation.
“I’m having a really big moment,” Mike said with his first bite. “There’s so much flavor and that cheese, it’s so good. The brioche is heightening the cheese because of its sweetness. Yeah, that is really something special right there.”
Not Your Momma’s Meatloaf
And, there’s another dish that brings out the “wow” factor.
This is not your momma’s meatloaf. It’s comprised of chuck ground beef, and it wears a bacon skirt. The meatloaf rests on a bed of velvety mashed potatoes. It’s all complemented by a beautiful house-made barbecue sauce. Then it’s topped with another one of those righteous onion rings.
“Very tender,” said Hannah. “The knife just kind of slides right through. I love the bacon on the outside of the meatloaf. It’s smoky, it’s crispy, but it’s still got a nice chew to it. The barbecue sauce is awesome. It’s like the perfect pairing for everything going on in here. I don’t think I’ll ever want to have meatloaf any other way again. This is so good.”
