SBY councilwoman calls for action after 10 y/o murdered
SALISBURY, Md. – A homicide that took the life of a 10-year-old boy is under investigation in Salisbury.
The family was outside the home still grieving the loss of the child. The boy’s life was taken and the suspect is still out there, leaving the community with more questions than answers. “Whatever it may be put your guns down. Put your guns down,” said April Jackson.
Salisbury councilwoman April Jackson responding after a bullet took the life of a 10-year-old boy Monday night. “At this point, investigators believe it may have been a shooting that occurred from outside of the home. We don’t have a description of a suspect, we don’t know if the suspect was in a vehicle or on foot. We do know that this is a heinous crime,” said Maryland State Police Spokesperson, Elena Russo.
Also at the home on Clay Street around 10:30 P.M. were the boy’s mother and 2 siblings, but no other injuries were reported. While no arrests have been made, Maryland State Police say there is no threat to the public saying they believe it was an isolated incident. Meanwhile, Jackson who says the child was family is angry and disheartened. She says the Salisbury community is close-knit, so someone has to know something. “We always been – everybody here and Salisbury basically we know. They’ve either slept at our house, went to school together, participated in sports together, we’ve eaten from the same tables. I just can’t understand where so much hatred has come in our communities, in our city, in our county, because we all know everybody,” said Jackson.
She says if you’re thinking about protecting someone think again, about the life that was just lost. “The streets aren’t loyal. It just took a child’s life so if you know what happened and you know who did it, tell them. Tell them who did it because it may be you next or maybe your child next.”
Police say they are searching for leads to try and solve the case.
Jackson believes this homicide is part of a bigger issue, calling for careless crime to stop here. “We’ve got to come in peace. We have to, it’s not no other way we can do this. We just can’t keep going around killing one another, it’s not right.”
April Jackson encourages the public to come forward if they know anything. She wants the community to learn to love and appreciate one another.
