Delaware State University celebrating 31 years as an institution
DOVER, Del. – Happy anniversary to Delaware State University!
They’re celebrating 31 years since the transition from Delaware State College in 1993. Over the years the school has made changes to expand their programming, including adding a doctoral and associates program and education opportunities in Jamaica and Barbados. Enrollment at the school has doubled to more than 6,000 students over the years. In 2021, DSU became the first Historically Black College and University to acquire another HBCU, Wesley College. The school’s research has also raised millions of dollars from federal agencies.
This is just the beginning, DSU has more in store. “We just want to continue that upward projectory, we want to continue to expand our footprint, our academic footprint that goes beyond the Dover area and even Delaware,” said Carlos Holmes, with Delaware State University.
In honor of their anniversary, DSU is hosting a philanthropy symposium currently that they founded 13 years ago. 53 HBCUs are in attendance to share best practices for fundraising and sustainability for institutions of higher education.
