Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office warning of phone scams

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County residents are asked to stay vigilant as a new scam makes rounds.

Scammers are spoofing the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office phone number. They are asking residents for money to clear their warrants or they will be arrested. Scammers can also reach out to you via email.

We spoke with the sheriff’s office who says they will never ask for this information over the phone, however, if you are the next potential victim here’s what they urge you to do. “The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office will never call and ask for money. We may call to follow up on a call. We may call down to check on your welfare, but we will never call and ask for money. If you think that we are calling you and asking you for money, hang up the phone and call the sheriff’s office,” said Captain Rich Wiersberg with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

If you are a victim of one of these calls you’re asked to call the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office directly at 410-548-4891.
