Down Syndrome Association DE looking for volunteers
DELAWARE – The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware is looking for help with their iCan Swim Camp.
They need 15 volunteers to assist swimmers. It’s a program looking to help individuals with disabilities learn water safety skills. The association is trying to lower the risk of water accidents.
Officials say this is an awesome experience for volunteers to make a new friends in the water. “So it’s really unique relationship, that you get to develop with the person with Down Syndrome you’re matched with. They look forward to you coming every day. They’re developing a new skill set and very proud and excited of themselves,” said Lauren Gates, the Executive Director, Down Syndrome Association of Delaware.
The Down Syndrome association is also looking for one licensed lifeguard to help with the program. The camp is only 5 days in July. Apply by contacting Jess Walls at jess@dsadelaware.org.
