Blood Bank of Delmarva hosts summer blood drive
OCEAN CITY, Md. – In Ocean City, many came out to the convention center to help save lives.
The Blood Bank of Delmarva hosted its summer blood drive Wednesday. They say this is crucial as school is wrapping up because schools make up 25% of the supply throughout the year. The blood bank is in need of O-negative and O-positive blood.
Tony Prado says when more people donate, first responders also have more blood in the field, increasing survival chances.”There’s a correlation in terms of how many incidents will happen. Trauma incidents go up, and emergencies increase. The paramedics have to be on guard and so do the hospitals and that includes making sure that the local hospital has the blood products they need,” said Prado.
Prado says the blood bank is looking for platelet donors. If you don’t know your blood type they will tell you for free, just visit the blood bank near you.
