100th EV charging station unveiled in Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, Md. – In Ocean City, the town just unveiled the 100th electric vehicle charging station in the state of Maryland.
“It’s great for Ocean City, for all of our residents, but particularly our visitors, you know, visible right here at the entrance to Ocean City to know there’s a destination right here where they can recharge, to spend time in Ocean City and then return home,” said Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan.
Delmarva Power says this is the best technology coming right to the heart of Ocean City at an affordable price tag. “These are actually L3 chargers, which are the fastest for us and, you know, cost approximately $35 for a customer to fill up with some variances based on the type of vehicle and they can do that in roughly a half hour,” said Marcus Beal, the Executive Director of External Affairs for Delmarva Power.
With these added electric charging stations, Ocean City is also going green. “The clean energy future is here and we want to make sure that, you know, as a local utility, we’re supporting the initiatives that the state of Maryland has that our local residents want and need, and really just making sure that we’re prepared and planning for that future and ready to execute on whatever that product is that, you know, that comes next,” said Beal.
Marcus Beal with Delmarva Power says this is the most used charging station in the region. It’s something Mayor Rick Meehan says may only be the beginning, but can be expanded in the future. “The more available charging stations I think, the more you’re going to see these types of automobiles, you know, be in our community. We look forward to the 200th, so hopefully this will keep going and we’ll be able to spread these out even in more areas throughout this area,” said Mayor Meehan.
This is just phase one, however, Delmarva Power is working with its partners to see what the next best thing is for their Maryland customers.
