Students pepper sprayed in attempt to break up fight at JMB High School

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault that happened at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury. On Friday at 7:37 a.m., a large fight broke out near the main entrance to the school.

Road patrol and school resource deputies responded, and police say they used pepper spray to break up the brawl. Two students were transported to TidalHealth.

Several students have been identified as being involved in the fight, say police. Deputies will complete requests for juvenile charges through the Department of Juvenile Services.

Police say there is no threat to the school community at this time. Investigators ask that anyone with information about the case contact DFC Pecoraro.

Wicomico County Public Schools officials released the following statement in response to the incident:

“James M. Bennett High and Wicomico County Public Schools appreciate the quick response of other law enforcement officers in the community who came to the school in case the SRO needed backup. The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us.”
