Prime parking spots benefit Bethany Beach Vol. Fire Company in busy summer months

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Looking for some prime beach parking, and a way to support local first responders this summer? Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company (BBVFC) has you covered.

The agency has opened up half of its parking lots for the public, to try and generate some more revenue. The spots are metered, and located on Hollywood Street. BBVFC Chief Tyler Hickman says the spots are just about a block away from the main drag and boardwalk.

Chief Hickman added  that the extra revenue is really helpful for the agency. Last year, he says they were able to generate about $56,000 from the parking program alone.

“It’s been really helpful with our budget. We are on a tight budget this year,” Chief Hickman said. “And, this is extra income that we have that we really need.”

The fire company asks that folks do not park in the area designated for their volunteers and staff, as spaces are limited.

Looking ahead, Chief Hickman says the agency is looking forward to a busy season, and are busy training for water rescues and other calls for service.

“We’ve already seen an uptick in calls for what we call a water rescue. People see stuff out in the ocean, but luckily, it’s just been trash or athletes training,” said Chief Hickman. “We want everybody to be safe out on the roads, safe out on the water.
