Habitat For Humanity blesses new building
FRUITLAND, Md. – Habitat For Humanity of Wicomico County is celebrating a new building to better serve the community.
“We had totally outgrown our last office space so this new building gives us more space for our staff to be able to serve the community,” said Molly Hilligoss, the Executive Director of Habitat For Humanity of Wicomico County.
Molly Hilligoss says the need for a new facility was crucial as the need for housing support in the community is also growing. “We are growing the capacity to serve more families. Right now we have 135 families on our waiting list for critical home repairs and a second ReStore will give us additional revenue so that we can complete those projects,” said Hilligoss.
At the new facility, there is more space for Habitat’s Administrative staff, making it possible to offer more resources to the public. “We’ll be able to educate folks on how to become first-time home buyers, 25 people at a time now and that’s transformative because that’s how people nowadays build wealth,” Hilligoss explained.
This new building also houses the second ReStore location. It’s a place where household donations are sold to raise money for Habitat For Humanity’s Projects. “They can find items at a bargain and help the community at the same time hopefully a lot more funds for Habitat and that will also keep a lot more items out of the trash,” said Lee Wise, the ReStore Director.
Habitat for Humanity will host its soft opening on June 20th. If you’d like to volunteer with Habitat, click here.
