Beebe continues to distribute Narcan, as surge of overdoses begins to level off in Sussex County

LEWES, Del. – Beebe Healthcare is announcing it is continuing its efforts to distribute Narcan in Sussex County following a deadly spike in overdoses that is now linked with 5 suspected overdose deaths according to the Delaware State Police.

The wave saw patients taking longer to recover and needing more Narcan to revive.

Police now confirming the illicit cocktail behind those overdoses, contained, xylazine, bromazolam, fentanyl, and other drugs.

In response, Beebe Hospital says they are working to get Narcan into the community and raising awareness of the dangers of this latest batch of illicit drugs.

“Just since last Wednesday morning to this morning, Monday morning, we’ve distributed 1021 Narcan kits, again, providing education around overdose ID, education around the resources that are available to individuals, which is critically important in these interactions, and then also providing training on the Narcan administration itself,” Beebe Director of Community Outreach Kim Blanch.

The training includes being ready to give a patient more than one Narcan dose to revive them.

Beebe hospital says that while they are seeing steady admissions, they have not seen a continuation of the rapid spike of cases that caused the alarm last week.
