Trauma Center Funding passes House on final day of MD Leg. session

MARYLAND-  On the final day of the legislative session, the Marylad House passed a measure to change the state’s funding formula for trauma centers to help give more funds to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury.

Lawmakers including Delegate Chris Adams are arguing the center is saving those who need critical care an hour-long flight to shock trauma in Baltimore, as well as serving over a million people in the summer when Ocean City is in season.

Delegate Chris Adams tells us the house voted to pass the bill which would fund the 42 million dollar increase statewide by increasing penalties for drunk driving and vehicle registration costs.

“It’s not only just Salisbury’s and the Eastern Shores Trauma Center, but during the summertime, the way that demand works, the entire state depends on that trauma center when they go to Ocean City. So very important to see that bill pass,” Delegate Adams said.

The bill now heads to the Maryland State Senate where a final vote could be called by Senate President Bill Ferguson Monday evening.
