Sea Colony to host annual “The Journey” Multiple Myeloma Fundraiser

BETHANY BEACH, DE – Sea Colony Tennis Center in Bethany Beach is ramping up for their annual Multiple Myeloma 5k and tennis tournament fundraiser ‘The Journey’.

The event was started in 2016 by homeowner Eric Gelber, after years of running a solo marathon in New York.

Gelber started that journey in 2007 after his friend Anita was diagnosed with the disease.

Since bringing the fundraiser to Bethany Beach community members have shown up in force for tennis, pickle ball, and 5ks, raising more than 2 point 4 million dollars to benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

“Everyone coming out to support each other, doing other events. The events are great and they’re fun, but at the end of the day, it’s really about everybody coming together, and sharing their journey in life. You know, a lot of it’s connected to this disease and that’s unfortunate, but at least we get to come together, you know, to celebrate our lives and, you know, all that we’re doing,” Gelber said.

registration has closed for Sunday’s tennis tournament, but if you’d like to take part, you can still participate in the 5k one-mile walk or pickleball tournament.
Organizers aim to raise more than 100 thousand dollars.
