Safety tips to view solar eclipse
DELMARVA – We’re just days away from the solar eclipse.
The moon will pass between the sun and the earth, but to get a good look, you’ll need the proper eye care.
Otherwise, you can be looking at some serious damage. “If you’re looking at the sun for too long unprotected you can lose vision and you can lose vision for 3, 6, to 9 months right down the middle portion of your vision and extreme circumstances you can permanently affect your vision have blindness in the middle part of your eye,” said Dr. Todd Bescak, Ophthalmologist for Chesapeake Eye Center.
Dr. Todd Bescak says as the solar eclipse happens the sky darkens, but don’t be fooled into looking at the sun. Dr. Bescak says you should keep an extra eye on the kids to make sure they’re keeping their eyes protected.
To witness this amazing celestial event, you should get the proper safety glasses. “The first thing I noticed, they are certified for ISO which is important in this situation. If you’re to test these you’re going to see that you can’t see much through them because they are so dark and that’s the point of it. They’re really only going to be useful in an eclipse,” said Dr. Bescak.
Dr. Besack says there is no treatment if you damage your eye. On Delmarv0, we can expect to see the solar eclipse between 2 PM and 4:30 PM on Monday.
