Heacook Fest celebrates life and legacy of Corporal Keith Heacook in Delmar

DELMAR, DE – Heacook Fest honoring the life and legacy of Corporal Keith Heacook of the Delmar Police Department took place Friday.

The fallen hero was killed in the line of duty 3 years ago, and to keep his memory alive the community is celebrating him and the impact he left behind.

Organizer Doug Marshall tells WMDT he had the vision of a party Heacook would have wanted to attend, and so the activities and music were tailored to that vision, keeping the community connected with Keith, even after his tragic passing.

“The highest way to honor someone is to try to live through their life, and Keith’s favorite band on Earth was The Amish Outlaws, thanks to our friends at Preston Automotive Group and Dave Wilson, Jr, they hired  Amish Outlaws to come in tonight and perform,” Marshall said.

The event also raises money for Behind The Line and Operation We Care, charities that focus on the mental health of first responders, the military and the police.

“We looked at the charities out there and we look at what his, you know, final moments were, and we really think about like what you know, what these police officers go through every day. So we’ve really tailored this to really focus on pure wellness benefits for first responders, both police and EMS,” Marshall said.

He tells us he hopes to see upwards of 5,000 attendees by the end of the night.
