Dewey Beach Police ask for public’s help in hit-and-run investigation

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Dewey Beach Police are asking for the public’s help in solving a hit-and-run crash that happened earlier this month.
On April 4th, around 8:15 p.m., officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Dickinson Avenue. Arriving officers found the center median light pole lying in the roadway, and say the vehicle had already left the scene. Officers searched the area, but were not able to locate a vehicle with consistent damage.
After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify a dark-colored 2020-2024 Hyundai Genesis or Santa Fe as the vehicle involved in the crash. Investigators say the vehicle was captured on camera colliding with the light pole, and continuing northbound on Coastal Highway. Police say the crash also destroyed two Dewey Beach Police crime cameras.
The vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage, say police. Investigators are unclear on whether any of the vehicle’s occupants were injured. No other injuries were reported.
Anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts or the driver’s identity is asked to contact investigators at 302-227-1110.
