Anaerobic Digestor bill for MD Farmers passes

MARYLAND – One of the final bills to pass in the 2024 General Assembly seeks to make anaerobic digesters easier to implement on farms across the state.

The complicated process helps to turn farming and poultry waste into viable energy and natural gas, but State Senator Mary Beth Carozza says streamlining the process might help get more farmers to use the technology.

“You will have a process that will help these farm families that want to pick up this business, learn more about it, and make that investment, it’s to make the process easier for them and also to prevent long delays in going forward,” Senator Carozza said.

The bill was supported by the Maryland Department of Agriculture, and Senator Carozza said in conversations with department officials, that they hope to further educate farmers on how the digesters work and help them to boost profits.
