Surf Club Has Tips Amid High Surf Advisory for Maryland Beaches
MARYLAND – A high surf advisory is in effect for Maryland.
The Ocean City Surf Club is warning that only experienced surfers should be on the water. Club President Tommy Vach says the waves are heavy and winds are blowing strong making for dangerous conditions. He said that while most people probably won’t venture into waves like that, they do expect surfers and boaters to be impacted.
Vach says if you do plan on surfing, bring a friend and in case of emergency, be ready to call for help. “If they’re on the beach and someone sees someone in distress in the ocean they need to call 911 at this time. There are no lifeguards on duty in Ocean City at this time,” said Tommy Vach, President of the Ocean City Surf Club.
If you do need to call 911 on the beach, beach patrol and or the coast guard may respond. Life guards will start on the beach in May.
