Md. woman arrested for allegedly providing firearm to prohibited person
DOVER, Del. – A Maryland woman has been arrested after police connected her to a firearms arrest last year.
In June 2023, Dover Police arrested 19-year-old Khalil Smith, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, after he was found in possession of a handgun. A subsequent investigation was launched into how Smith got the firearm, leading police to determine that 24-year-old Courtney Hughes purchased the gun for Smith and allegedly intentionally made false statements when purchasing the gun.
Hughes was arrested in late February at a residence in Elkton, Maryland, and was extradited to Delaware a few days later, where she was formally charged with giving a firearm to a person prohibited, engaging in a firearms transaction on behalf of another, second degree conspiracy, and other related offenses. She was later released on an unsecured bond.
