Man in stable condition after stabbing in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md. –  A 31-year-old man in Cambridge is facing first-degree murder and assault charges after stabbing a 39-year-old man early Saturday morning.

Cambridge Police responded to the 400 block of Camper St to investigate a stabbing around 3:50 am.

Upon officers’ arrival, they located a 39-year-old male victim from Cambridge lying on the floor bleeding with multiple stab and laceration wounds to his back, arms, thigh, and head.

CPD officers rendered medical aid to the victim until Dorchester County EMS arrived on the scene and took over medical care.

While CPD was rendering medical aid to the victim identified his attacker as Brandon McCourt.

According to CPD, the victim was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury by ambulance where he is currently in surgery in stable condition. Due to the current weather conditions, the victim was unable to be flown out by a medivac helicopter.

A witness who was on location was also assaulted by the suspect as he fled from the residence helped officers confirm the identity of the attacker.

A CPD Officer who was on foot located the suspect hiding in a wooded area between Camper St and the Board of Education.

The suspect was identified as Charles Brandon McCourt and was placed under arrest.

McCourt has been charged, had his initial appearance before a Court Commissioner, and turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on No Bond. McCourt is charged with the following:

– 1st Degree Attempted Murder

– 2nd Degree Attempted Murder

– Assault 1st Degree

– Assault 2nd Degree

– Reckless Endangerment

– Dangerous Weapon Intent to Injure
